Ola Electric
BIC Space Design
3D Visualisation
BACKGROUND
Ola Battery Innovation Centre (BIC) is a first of its kind research centre in India, where Li-ion batteries are constantly researched and improved for the use in electric vehicles. A large empty space at the centre was assigned for a museum-like walkthrough. This was required to build relationships with potential investors as well as create an educational space that honoured the engineers and scientists working here.
CHALLENGE
A lot of information had to be disseminated across the given space. This included the last decade of Ola and its foray into the electric vehicle space, their factory, the minerals and chemicals used for creating the Li-ion batteries, and all the patents and tests that BIC had. All this information had to be distilled visually to be made comprehensible for an audience that wasn’t familiar with the science behind making a battery.
APPROACH
With its complexity, based on the academic research, the entire space was divided across 3 main zones:
Zone 1: Company
Zone 2: Cell
Zone 3: BIC
I had the opportunity to work on the first of its kind Battery Innovation Centre (BIC) for Ola electric in the summer of 2023. I was responsible for designing all elements on the proposed displays and the 3D visualisation of the given space at BIC, this included modelling, lighting, interactivity and material explorations.

BATTERY INNOVATION CENTRE
OVERVIEW
ZONE 3
BIC
This zone covered the birth of BIC. Patents, processes and machinery of BIC were displayed here. To cover the two main tests of the cell were visualised as installations to simulate the piercing and the thermal stress test. This was developed based on interviews with the scientists and the researchers working at BIC.

ZONE 1
Company
The first zone was for the history of Ola, its mission, its current line of electric scooters and the model of the EV hub that is still under development. I conceptualised the history as a visual timeline from 2011 to 2021, using newspaper and media reports.

ZONE 2
Cell
This section displayed the evolution of the cell, and live examples of how various elements and material is used to create it. I developed posters and conceptualised the displays for each element. This required a thorough academic research of the process of Cell development that included mining, ore extractions and combining of chemicals.
